c. 1910s/1920s; Acme Chemical Manufacturing Co. - New Orleans

Antique tin litho medicine sign.

This sign advertises "H. G. C." injections, or "He Grew Cheerful" injections to treat "mucous discharge sand catarrhal conditions" (inflammation of a mucous membrane) relief product. This is a striking sign that boasts embossed graphics and lettering including a large illustrated depiction of a man (likely the "H" in HGC) pointing proudly to an illustrated depiction of the product.

The first DPI (dry powder inhaler) was invented by Ira Warren in 1852, and the late 1800s and early 1900s were filed with various applications of medicical "wellness" through the olfactory canals. Included is this product from Acme Chemical as an early inhaler or nasal spray that handled post-nasal drip, stuffy nose, congestion, etc. Many other companies proposed their nasal remedies cleaned one of parasites, calibrated digestion, and helped with fatigue, but across it's advertising campaign, H.G.C. only claimed to work with nasal congestion.

Exhibits moderate signs of wear including scuffs, scratches, discoloration, and some rust throughout.
