Heavy cast iron fluting iron featuring dual roller cylinders operated by a hand crank with turned wooden grip. This early household appliance was designed to pleat and crimp fabric-most often collars, cuffs, and decorative linens-by running dampened cloth through the heated rollers. The sturdy cast frame bears embossed lettering and retains areas of original japanned finish.

Produced by J. D. Osborne & Co., a late 19th-century American maker of irons and laundry implements, this fluter reflects a period when specialized pressing devices were marketed to middle-class households seeking fashionable textile finishes. Compact yet robust, it exemplifies both the ingenuity and industrial craftsmanship of the Victorian laundry trade.

Shows expected surface oxidation and finish loss from age, with rollers turning smoothly and crank handle intact.

If a parcel shipment exceeds $100, the remaining costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. FREIGHT SHIPPING

Free freight shipping is available for most large items. Conditions and restrictions apply: Free delivery is only offered on orders in the continental US. Shipping for freight items is free up to $500. If freight shipping costs exceed $500, the buyer is responsible for covering any amount over $500. Free freight delivery services include: delivery to a freight terminal, curbside delivery, and door-to-door delivery with a private carrier. White glove delivery services are *not included* in our free freight shipping policy, but may be available for a fee. Buyers may be subject to fees in cases where a delivery location is remote/difficult to access, or where a shipment requires special handling. Please contact us for shipping quotes and available services prior to purchasing. 

All shipments are considered FOB (Free on Board), meaning the buyer assumes all responsibility for the shipment the moment it leaves our loading dock. Any risk of loss or damage after this point is assumed solely by the buyer. In the event of damage or loss, we are happy to assist buyers in the claims process if we helped coordinate the shipment. However, we are not responsible for any damages, loss, or deductibles. 

Delivery for freight items averages between 2-4 weeks. Longer delivery times are to be expected in cases where a delivery location is remote or when an order contains especially large or fragile items.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

All shipments going outside of the continental United States will require consultation prior to shipping. Items will be crated and shipped by boat or by air at the buyer's expense. Please contact us regarding any questions you may have.
