This mortuary stretcher was once used in the transport of coffins. The base expands out from the center by pressing down, locking in place once expanded. Developed by Champion Chemical Company, which was founded in 1878 and still exists today in Springfield, OH - this base could serve excellently as a coffee table base. This piece is believed to have originated around the turn of the century. The collapsed dimensions are 12" x 10". The expanded dimensions are 45" x 21" x 22".
