c. 1770s-1790s; Cousineau Workshop - Paris, France

Rare late 18th-century French harp bearing the stamp "Cousineau A Paris," attributed to the workshop of renowned harp maker Georges Cousineau. The instrument features a richly carved Rococo-inspired crown with floral and foliate ornament, a dramatically curved neck retaining its original tuning hardware, and a tapered soundbox displaying the elegant proportions associated with early French pedal harps.

Georges Cousineau (1733-1800) was among the most influential harp makers of eighteenth-century France, known for advancing pedal harp technology and supplying instruments during a period when the harp enjoyed immense popularity among the French aristocracy. His work helped lay the foundation for the modern concert harp and remains highly sought after by collectors and institutions today.

Shows significant age-related wear consistent with its age and former use. Instrument has lost its strings and exhibits a visible separation and gap within the soundboard. Scattered surface wear, finish loss, shrinkage cracks, abrasions, and losses to carved elements are present throughout. Despite its condition issues, the harp retains substantial original material, decorative carving, and strong display presence.
