Dimensions: 30" W x 46.25" H
Condition: Canvas displays extensive craquelure, surface grime, discoloration, varnish deterioration, and widespread paint instability. Significant paint loss, flaking, and lifting are present throughout, exposing the underlying canvas in numerous areas. A prominent vertical tear extending through the center of the composition exhibits evidence of an old repair and associated restoration. The painting was previously mounted to an earlier stretcher before being cut free and remounted onto the current stretched canvas, with the trimmed original canvas margins visible along the edges. The adhered edges of the original canvas are beginning to separate and peel away from the newer support in several areas, further evidencing prior restoration. Canvas edges exhibit fraying, losses, and deterioration, with localized separation from the stretcher. Additional tears, punctures, abrasions, and scattered overpaint or restoration are present throughout.

Additional Details:
Large devotional oil on canvas depicting a biblical scene believed to represent Mary of Bethany anointing the feet of Christ. Christ is shown seated within a monumental classical interior while a kneeling female figure reverently kisses or anoints His foot. The composition is populated by attendants and disciples observing the event, with towering fluted columns, draped architectural elements, and vessels at the lower right reinforcing the grand ecclesiastical setting. The work demonstrates characteristics associated with the Baroque tradition, including dramatic contrasts of light, expressive gestures, and richly colored drapery. Despite extensive condition issues and historic restoration, the painting retains passages of finely executed flesh tones, vibrant blue and rose garments, and an imposing architectural backdrop. Examination of the reverse indicates the original canvas was removed from an earlier stretcher, trimmed, and remounted onto the present support during a past conservation campaign.

FREIGHT SHIPPING

Free freight shipping is available for most large items. Conditions and restrictions apply: Free delivery is only offered on orders in the continental US. Shipping for freight items is free up to $500. If freight shipping costs exceed $500, the buyer is responsible for covering any amount over $500. Free freight delivery services include: delivery to a freight terminal, curbside delivery, and door-to-door delivery with a private carrier. White glove delivery services are *not included* in our free freight shipping policy, but may be available for a fee. Buyers may be subject to fees in cases where a delivery location is remote/difficult to access, or where a shipment requires special handling. Please contact us for shipping quotes and available services prior to purchasing. 

All shipments are considered FOB (Free on Board), meaning the buyer assumes all responsibility for the shipment the moment it leaves our loading dock. Any risk of loss or damage after this point is assumed solely by the buyer. In the event of damage or loss, we are happy to assist buyers in the claims process if we helped coordinate the shipment. However, we are not responsible for any damages, loss, or deductibles. 

Delivery for freight items averages between 2-4 weeks. Longer delivery times are to be expected in cases where a delivery location is remote or when an order contains especially large or fragile items.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

All shipments going outside of the continental United States will require consultation prior to shipping. Items will be crated and shipped by boat or by air at the buyer's expense. Please contact us regarding any questions you may have.
