The miniature faithfully reproduces a complex municipal cleaning machine with a long wooden draft pole, articulated front carriage, six spoked wheels, brass gearing, chain-driven components, sweeping rollers, debris-collection mechanisms, and a substantial wood-paneled body. Hinged roof panels and side doors provide access to the interior, while multiple operating levers demonstrate the movement of the mechanical assemblies. A small hinged wooden compartment is labeled "Seat and Tool-box."

The model includes a removable wooden lid associated with the rear compartment, several removable undercarriage planks, and additional loose wooden pieces. One group of three planks with an attached bracket does not appear to have an obvious mounting location and may represent a displaced or incomplete component.

Horse-drawn mechanical street sweepers were introduced during the 19th century as cities sought more efficient methods of removing dirt and debris from increasingly busy streets. Their ground wheels commonly powered rotating brushes, chains, gears, and collection mechanisms, and horse-drawn designs remained in municipal service until motorized sweeping equipment became established during the early 20th century.

In good condition with numerous small and finely constructed components remaining intact. The hinged doors and roof panels open and close, the removable planks slide from the undercarriage, and the levers operate corresponding mechanical pieces. All wheels turn easily. The wood exhibits scattered scratches, finish wear, minor abrasions, and age-related discoloration, while the metal components show patina, tarnishing, and localized oxidation. The loose three-plank assembly may be incomplete or missing an associated attachment. Although the model is structurally substantial, care should be taken when lifting or moving it because of its numerous projecting and articulated parts.

19" L x 7" W x 4.5" H

MM - 22729 - 102326

For information regarding shipping, please visit our Terms & Conditions page here.

https://industrialartifacts.net/products/mid-to-late-19th-century-horse-drawn-street-sweeper-patent-model
