Each drawer is a rounded-corner aluminum box with a turned, silver-painted knob, and a few knobs show touches of red paint. Inside, the drawers have small screw-hole mounting blocks at the corners. Some are subdivided into halves or thirds with wood dividers, and one example includes a screw. Many drawer fronts are hand-lettered in marker or paint, with labels such as Badger, Hersey, Swift Meter Parts, Hydrant Pins, Curb Box Plugs, Register Lid Pins, Valve Stems, Hydraulic Cutter Parts, Faucet Washers Assortment, Cork Packing, Graphite, Rivets, Gear Screws, and Misc. Junk, along with a number of alphanumeric codes such as 36S 37S 38S and 45V 46V 49V. The cabinet stands on two angled wood feet bolted to the sides. The left side has a sprayed yellow and gray paint finish, and the back is an unpainted reddish-brown wood panel.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nMade in the 1920s - 1940s, the handwritten labels point to use in a water meter and hydrant repair or maintenance shop, where small parts, washers, packing, and fasteners were sorted by type and by meter brand.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nThe wood cabinet has two cracks in the left side, one near the top and one in the middle (see photos). The back is separating from the cabinet. Two nails protrude: one bent over in the left side, and another extending from the top right front of the cabinet, possibly left on purpose to hang something on. The top has paint spills, stains, and wear. The 96 aluminum drawers are in good shape, with varying degrees of wear, staining, and soiling consistent with use and storage. One drawer contains a hardened liquid substance (see photo).
