c. 1940s-1950s; NASCO (National Agricultural Supply Co.) - Fort Atkinson, WI

Large-scale industrial mold used in the production of early nursing and massage training manikins, consisting of a cast human form housed within a heavy steel clamping frame. The form depicts a full standing human figure with anatomically modeled musculature, intended for instructional use rather than display refinement (that particular item is spelled "mannequin"). The surrounding bolted frame functioned to hold mold sections under compression during casting or curing, with numerous threaded points, clamps, and alignment features visible throughout. The result is a striking convergence of medical education, mid-century industrial process, and sculptural form-where function dictated every line and surface.

NASCO (National Agricultural Supply Co.), founded in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin in 1941, became a major supplier of educational materials across agriculture, science, and healthcare. By the mid-20th century, the company was especially influential in medical and nursing education, producing anatomical models, training aids, and manikins that helped standardize instruction in schools and hospitals across the United States. Pieces like this reflect NASCO's role in bridging manufacturing, pedagogy, and applied medical science during the postwar expansion of institutional training.

Shows extensive surface patina and oxidation to the steel frame, with rust present throughout consistent with age and industrial use. The molded form shows wear and surface variation from production handling. Structurally solid overall. The piece is extremely heavy; transport requires a dolly and at least two people.
