c. 1950s-1960s; J.C. Carlile Corp. - Denver, CO

Salesman's sample industrial tank system model with carrying case.

This detailed scale model was produced by J.C. Carlile Corp., Engineers of Denver, Colorado, as a salesman's sample for demonstrating large-scale tank and piping installations. The model features two cylindrical tanks marked Tank 1 and Tank 2, joined by a network of painted piping, gauges, and valves, along with auxiliary machinery components and a figurine for scale. A large red enamel identification plate with the Carlile Corp. name anchors the front, while the model is set into a fitted wooden base with latches for transport. The original green-painted wooden carrying case, stenciled FRAGILE, accompanies the piece.

Salesman's samples like this served as indispensable tools in mid-20th century industrial sales, allowing engineers and representatives to present complex systems in portable, tangible form to prospective clients. This example demonstrates both technical precision and craftsmanship, bridging industrial design with marketing.

Wear is consistent with age and handling: paint losses to the pipes and figures, scattered dust and soil to the base, and scuffing to the wood case. Structurally solid and visually striking, with all major components present.
