1935 Hinsdale “Chrome Vanadium Steel” Trade Catalog
c. 1934; Hinsdale Manufacturing Company - Chicago, IL
Softcover trade catalog issued by Hinsdale Manufacturing Company, featuring their "Tools of Quality" line with emphasis on chrome vanadium steel construction. The cover presents a bold yellow-to-red gradient with prominent branding and material callout, immediately positioning the catalog within the era's push toward stronger, alloy-based tool production. Interior pages showcase a range of offerings including rim wrenches, bicycle and motorcycle tool kits, and vanadium end wrenches, all illustrated with clean technical drawings and structured pricing layouts.
The catalog leans heavily into performance claims, highlighting forging strength, cadmium plating, and precision machining standards. Layouts combine bold graphic elements with practical specifications, reflecting its dual role as both a sales aid and a technical reference for dealers and mechanics. Several pages emphasize compatibility with contemporary vehicles, including 1935 model applications, anchoring the piece firmly in the mid-1930s automotive service landscape.
Hinsdale Manufacturing Company, based in Chicago, was an early 20th century producer of hand tools and mechanic's equipment, known for marketing durable chrome vanadium steel tools to garages, dealerships, and hardware distributors.
Shows moderate wear including edge wear, light creasing, and some toning to pages. Minor handwritten notation present on the cover as shown.
