This back bar has been rescued from the remodel of a historic bar and former speakeasy in DeKalb, IL. As the story goes, the bar opened on Tenth Street in 1919 just next door to the original manufacturing plant of barbed wire, DeKalb's claim to fame. The building operated as a grocery and bar by the Rukavina family for many decades until it's closure in 1974. Rukavina's Tavern had a long history of serving the community steak dinners on Saturdays with live music from Tamburica bands on the weekends. During the remodel of the property, many hidden and discarded liquor bottles were found and will also be available in our store.

When the property was sold the remains of a still were found. The grandfather of the family was once charged in 1928 by the local police for selling alcohol during prohibition, but the case was taken to the supreme court and the case was thrown out. Many of the Rukavina children are still alive today.

This bar, without a doubt, holds many memories and a storied past. Industrial Artifacts is proud to curate such pieces if only for a short time.

The bar has two light sockets hidden underneath to light up the shelves - though new wiring should be put in before use. This bar has overall dimensions of 12' x 18.5" x 40"H. Each of the three shelves are 87" in length.
