Early 1900s J.R. Beiersdorf & Co. Advertising Tin Sign with Rolled Edges
c. 1900s-1910s; J.R. Beiersdorf & Co. - Chicago, IL
Pressed tin advertising sign with scalloped octagonal form and original hanging chain, promoting J.R. Beiersdorf & Co., Pork Packers of Chicago. The central lithographed portrait of a blonde woman against a soft green background is bordered by faded gold lettering advertising the company's "Colonial Hams, Bacon, Lard, and Sausage." Typical of early 20th-century butcher and packing house signage, the piece blends romantic portraiture with period branding to attract customers in shop windows and market displays.
Founded in Chicago during the late 19th century, J.R. Beiersdorf & Co. operated as a regional pork packer during the height of the city's meatpacking industry, competing with larger firms in the Union Stock Yard district.
Exhibits minor signs of wear across the face. Please refer to photos regarding condition.
