c. 1920s; République Française / Johnson Lock Co. - Paris, France / Chicago

Group of four original French patent document sets ("Brevet d'Invention") relating to mechanical innovations attributed to Johnson Lock Co., each bearing official French government formatting and typographic seals. These documents represent formal international patent filings or protections, extending American mechanical inventions into the European market during a period of rapid automotive and industrial development.

Each set features an ornate printed cover with classical French design elements, including allegorical portrait medallions and decorative borders, titled "Brevet d'Invention - Sans Garantie du Gouvernement." Interior pages include typed and handwritten entries, technical descriptions in French, and formal issuance language from the French Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Several examples retain visible ink stamps noting licensing or receipt dates tied to Johnson Lock Co., indicating active commercial use and international patent enforcement. The grouping reflects a coordinated effort to secure intellectual property abroad, likely tied to automotive locking or related mechanical systems seen elsewhere in the archive.

Shows moderate age and handling wear throughout including edge tears, creasing, toning, minor losses at corners, and light staining. Hole punches along margins and visible fold lines consistent with filing and archival storage.
