c. 1930s; Johnson Lock Co. - Chicago

Thick bound reference binder containing a compiled set of patent drawings, technical diagrams, and legal documentation related to early automotive locking devices and associated hardware. The contents include multiple detailed sheets illustrating mechanisms such as automobile tire lock cables and gear shift lever locks, with sectional diagrams, numbered components, and typed patent specifications. Several pages reference C. L. Johnson and Johnson Lock Co., with clearly printed patent numbers, filing dates, and formal United States Patent Office formatting.

The front cover bears an official label identifying Duro Metal Products Co. in relation to Johnson Automobile Lock Company, indicating this binder functioned as part of a legal or evidentiary file-likely assembled for patent review, opposition, or litigation. The organized grouping of documents, handwritten annotations, and retained fasteners suggest it was actively used in a working industrial or legal environment rather than as a standard sales catalog. The material captures a moment when competing manufacturers were aggressively developing and defending mechanical innovations in the early automotive era.

Duro Metal Products Company of Chicago was an early 20th-century tool and hardware manufacturer closely tied to the development of mechanic-grade tools and industrial components, operating in the same competitive landscape that produced brands like Indestro and Snap-On.

Shows moderate to heavy wear consistent with use, including edge wear to the covers, toning and discoloration to pages, minor creasing, and handling marks throughout. Interior remains intact and fully readable.
