Antique Brass Valet Bell
c. 1900s-1920s;
Cast‑brass counter/service bell with domed cap and finial, resting on three scrolled, stylized swan‑neck arms over a foliate‑embossed base with beaded rim.
Made for hotel desks and shop counters, this press‑to‑ring bell blends late‑Victorian ornament with compact utility. The bell retains a warm hand‑polished patina with small rubs and use marks; the relief on the base is crisp and lively. Functional and decorative, it's right at home on a concierge stand, host station, or bar.
From the late 19th into the early 20th century, East Hampton, Connecticut was known as"Bell Town" where firms such as Bevin Brothers and Gong Bell supplied brass desk and service bells to hotels and businesses nationwide. This piece features two stalks on either side of the bell that rise up to strike the bell and elicit a chime as opposed to the traditional interior hanging pendant.
