Reverse-painted glass "Optometrists" advertising sign from the Tallimit Art line produced by C. & A. Richards of Boston, Massachusetts. Executed in the firm's characteristic black-and-gold palette with a geometric border and serif lettering, the sign is housed in its original gilt-finished molded wood frame. Tallimit signs were marketed during the early twentieth century for professional offices, businesses, and institutional settings, combining reverse-painted glass with Colonial Revival-inspired decorative framing to create refined interior signage. This example was produced specifically for an optometrist's office, reflecting the growing professionalization of eye care during the period.

Founded in Boston, Massachusetts, C. & A. Richards produced the popular Tallimit Art line of reverse-painted glass decorative panels and professional signs during the early twentieth century.

Displays age-related wear including scattered scratches, finish wear, and minor losses to the gilt-painted reverse decoration. The reverse-painted glass panel is loose within the frame and is presently retained by only three brad nails along with later-applied tape. The sign has no protective backing, leaving the reverse-painted surface exposed. Areas of the gold paint are missing around the brad nail locations, and adhesive tape has caused localized paint loss where the reverse decoration has separated from the glass in one corner, as shown in the photographs. The gilt-finished frame exhibits typical wear consistent with age and use.
