Cast iron wall plaque depicting the profile of Sigmund Freud rendered as a visual optical illusion. At first glance, the relief shows a classical bearded male head in profile; however, the facial features are cleverly composed of intertwined nude female figures. The women's bodies form the forehead, nose, mustache, beard, and chin - becoming more apparent when the image is rotated upside down. The composition plays directly on Freudian themes of sexuality and the subconscious, making it both humorous and conceptually sharp.

Often titled "What's On a Man's Mind," this illusion became popular in early 20th century graphic art and novelty prints. The cast iron format suggests it was produced as a decorative plaque, likely intended for hanging in a study, bar, or private interior where its double-meaning would be appreciated.

Surface patina and oxidation consistent with age. Casting details remain crisp, particularly in the flowing hair and layered figure forms. Hanging loop intact.

PARCEL SHIPPING

We ship smaller objects with UPS and USPS. All shipments are fully insured and adhere to carrier packing guidelines. Shipping costs for smaller items being shipped within the continental United States are free up to $100. If a parcel shipment exceeds $100, the remaining costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. Please reach out to us for a free shipping quote on items you are interested in purchasing and note that international shipments may incur additional shipping cost.

FREIGHT SHIPPING

Free freight shipping is available for most large items. Conditions and restrictions apply: Free delivery is only offered on orders in the continental US. Shipping for freight items is free up to $500. If freight shipping costs exceed $500, the buyer is responsible for covering any amount over $500. Free freight delivery services include: delivery to a freight terminal, curbside delivery, and door-to-door delivery with a private carrier. White glove delivery services are *not included* in our free freight shipping policy, but may be available for a fee. Buyers may be subject to fees in cases where a delivery location is remote/difficult to access, or where a shipment requires special handling. Please contact us for shipping quotes and available services prior to purchasing. 

All shipments are considered FOB (Free on Board), meaning the buyer assumes all responsibility for the shipment the moment it leaves our loading dock. Any risk of loss or damage after this point is assumed solely by the buyer. In the event of damage or loss, we are happy to assist buyers in the claims process if we helped coordinate the shipment. However, we are not responsible for any damages, loss, or deductibles. 

Delivery for freight items averages between 2-4 weeks. Longer delivery times are to be expected in cases where a delivery location is remote or when an order contains especially large or fragile items.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

All shipments going outside of the continental United States will require consultation prior to shipping. Items will be crated and shipped by boat or by air at the buyer's expense. Please contact us regarding any questions you may have.
