Hand-carved Inuit stone sculpture depicting a goose in a seated, resting posture, rendered with smooth, rounded contours and restrained naturalism. The form is compact and balanced, with the head slightly raised and the body settled low, conveying a quiet, grounded presence. Fine incised linework across the wings suggests layered feathers, contrasting with the polished stone surface of the body and neck. The stone itself shows natural tonal variation and subtle veining, which the artist has allowed to remain visible, enhancing the organic character of the piece. A carved signature is present on the underside of the base, consistent with Inuit studio and cooperative practices of the period.

Inuit stone carvings gained significant international recognition in the mid-20th century, particularly from the 1950s through the 1970s, as cooperative art programs across Arctic Canada supported Indigenous artists in producing sculpture for southern and global markets. These works often focused on animals central to Inuit life and environment, rendered in simplified, enduring forms that emphasized mass, silhouette, and material honesty. Goose and waterfowl subjects were common, reflecting both subsistence traditions and seasonal cycles, and remain emblematic of Inuit sculptural output from this era.

Good vintage condition with minor surface wear consistent with age and handling. The stone shows small abrasions and natural inclusions but no cracks or structural issues. The incised details remain clear and well-defined.

Shipping costs for smaller items being shipped within the continental United States are free up to $100. If a parcel shipment exceeds $100, the remaining costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. FREIGHT SHIPPING

Free freight shipping is available for most large items. Conditions and restrictions apply: Free delivery is only offered on orders in the continental US. Shipping for freight items is free up to $500. If freight shipping costs exceed $500, the buyer is responsible for covering any amount over $500. Free freight delivery services include: delivery to a freight terminal, curbside delivery, and door-to-door delivery with a private carrier. White glove delivery services are *not included* in our free freight shipping policy, but may be available for a fee. Buyers may be subject to fees in cases where a delivery location is remote/difficult to access, or where a shipment requires special handling. Please contact us for shipping quotes and available services prior to purchasing. 

All shipments are considered FOB (Free on Board), meaning the buyer assumes all responsibility for the shipment the moment it leaves our loading dock. Any risk of loss or damage after this point is assumed solely by the buyer. In the event of damage or loss, we are happy to assist buyers in the claims process if we helped coordinate the shipment. However, we are not responsible for any damages, loss, or deductibles. 

Delivery for freight items averages between 2-4 weeks. Longer delivery times are to be expected in cases where a delivery location is remote or when an order contains especially large or fragile items.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

All shipments going outside of the continental United States will require consultation prior to shipping. Items will be crated and shipped by boat or by air at the buyer's expense. Please contact us regarding any questions you may have.
