c. 1930s-1940s; International Exhibits, Inc. - Asbury Park, NJ

Painted cast composition or plaster clown head paired with a cast metal carnival-style water pistol, originally part of a shooting gallery or midway target game setup.

This grouping carries all the hallmarks of early amusement park shooting games, where water or air-powered pistols were used to trigger animated targets. The clown head features exaggerated facial expression, open mouth aperture, and mounting base with bolt holes-likely designed to be fixed to a panel or mechanism where a successful shot would activate movement or sound. The original painted surface shows heavy wear and layered loss, exposing earlier coats beneath the blue hat and flesh tones. The accompanying pistol is clearly marked "International Exhibits, Inc. - Asbury Park, New Jersey," tying it directly to one of the major producers of arcade and midway equipment. Its cast construction, threaded nozzle, and textured grip reflect the rugged, repeat-use demands of boardwalk and traveling carnival environments.

Shows heavy surface wear consistent with prolonged use including extensive paint loss, chipping, and abrasion to the clown head, along with oxidation and finish loss on the pistol. General age-related patina throughout. Head has not been cleaned. Not tested.
