Sculptural tabletop ashtray featuring a stylized early jet aircraft mounted on a curved copper support arm, rising from a weighted circular base. The jet is finished in japanned copper with contrasting wear to high points, and is mounted on a functional ball joint, allowing the aircraft to pivot and articulate freely above the ashtray. The base is formed with multiple cigarette rests and retains its original darkened finish.

This piece reflects the optimism and technological fascination of the early Jet Age, when aviation motifs entered domestic objects as symbols of speed, progress, and modernity. The dynamic mounting gives the jet a sense of motion, transforming a utilitarian smoking accessory into a small kinetic sculpture. Pieces like this were often marketed toward executives, pilots, or aviation enthusiasts, blurring the line between desk object, novelty, and design statement.

Mid-century novelty ashtrays frequently employed aircraft, rockets, and industrial forms, capitalizing on postwar enthusiasm for flight and engineering. The use of japanned copper and a pivoting mechanism suggests a higher-quality production rather than mass-market souvenir ware.

Shows surface wear and patina consistent with age, including oxidation, finish loss, and use marks to the ashtray basin. The ball joint functions properly and allows smooth movement of the jet. Structurally solid and displays exceptionally well.
