c. 1940s; Pavelka Bros. - Cleveland, OH

Lighted countertop advertising sign for Pavelka's Major Pee-Bee Brand Luncheon Meats, featuring bold red and yellow graphics with the company's whimsical drum-major pig mascot standing atop a plinth labeled "Pavelka Bros." The reverse-painted glass panel reads "Enjoy Pavelka's Major Pee-Bee Brand Luncheon Meats," framed in a ribbed metal bezel with an angled black metal housing designed for deli counter or grocery display use. When illuminated, the red border glows vividly, highlighting the layered paint and giving the piece strong mid-century presence.

Pavelka Bros., based in Cleveland, Ohio, operated as a regional meat processor and cold-cut producer during the early to mid-20th century. Period newspaper advertising promotes their "Flavor-Sealed, Vacuum-Packed Cold Cuts," emphasizing freshness and the emerging technology of vacuum packing. "Pee-Bee" appears to be a phonetic abbreviation for "P.B." - short for Pavelka Bros. - used as a brand identity device. The "Major Pee-Bee" pig mascot reinforced the brand through playful, parade-style imagery, a common mid-century marketing strategy for regional food producers competing in crowded grocery markets. The coupon advertisement highlights vacuum-sealed packaging as a selling point, reflecting postwar innovations in food preservation and retail merchandising.

Tested and working. Noticeable paint loss and edge wear to the reverse-painted glass as shown, particularly along the lower red border. Frame and housing show age-appropriate wear consistent with countertop commercial use.
