c. 1890s; Gus V. Brecht Butchers Supply Co. - St. Louis, MO

Exceptional cast iron butcher shop rack crest featuring a dramatic western livestock scene in high relief. The centerpiece depicts a charging bull pursued by a mounted cowboy, both cast with remarkable detail and mounted atop a sweeping arched rack. At center is the original raised manufacturer's plaque reading "GUS. V. BRECHT B.S. CO. MANUFACTURERS ST. LOUIS, MO." The rack retains numerous forged hanging hooks along its length and four original mounting tabs for wall installation. Pieces of this scale and complexity served as both functional fixtures and visual advertisements within late 19th-century butcher shops, where they provided hanging points for tools while reinforcing the identity of the establishment.

Shows moderate to heavy age-related wear including oxidation, surface rust, paint loss, scattered pitting, and accumulated patina throughout. Original painted finishes remain visible in areas of both the bull and rider. Hardware securing the bull and cowboy figures is later replacement hardware and not original to the piece. Presents well with strong visual impact and retains excellent overall structural integrity.
