c. 1928-1940s; The Adams & Westlake Company - Chicago, IL / Elkhart, IN

Antique Adlake Kero kerosene lantern manufactured for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad, commonly known as the Milwaukee Road. The galvanized and steel body features a tall pivoting wire bail handle, protective globe cage, broad circular base, and perforated upper and lower ventilation openings. A clear short glass globe surrounds the internal burner and removable fuel font. The upper shoulder is stamped "CMStP&P," identifying its railroad ownership, while the vent cap is marked "KERO" and the globe bears an "ADLAKE KERO" marking. Its rugged construction allowed the lantern to be carried, hung, or placed upright while protecting the glass and flame during railroad service.

The Adams & Westlake Company, commonly known as Adlake, originated in Chicago during the 19th century and became a major American manufacturer of railroad lanterns, lamps, car hardware, and other railway equipment. The company later relocated its manufacturing operations to Elkhart, Indiana.

Good antique condition with extensive oxidation, tarnish, surface dirt, scratches, discoloration, and wear throughout the metal body, cage, bail handle, ventilated housings, and fuel font. The frame exhibits minor bends and irregularities consistent with railroad use and storage. The clear globe remains present and shows accumulated residue, spotting, and surface wear, with no obvious cracks visible in the photographs. The burner and fuel font are present. Fuel operation, wick adjustment, and overall functionality have not been tested.
