Antique "Dumore" Bottler Cleaner Boiler Thermometer by George J. Meyer
c. 1920s/1930s; Geo. J. Meyer Manufacturing Co. - Milwaukee, WI
Cast metal boiler thermometer produced for use on Dumore bottle cleaner machines, designed to monitor operating temperatures during commercial bottle washing and sterilization. The heavy rectangular housing frames a glass mercury tube with a clearly graduated Fahrenheit scale, marked from 60° up to 260°, allowing operators to quickly confirm proper heat levels during cleaning cycles. The maker's name-Geo. J. Meyer Manufacturing Co.-is prominently stamped along the body, tying the piece directly to one of the Midwest's better-known producers of bottling and beverage-processing equipment.
Thermometers of this type were integral components of Dumore bottle cleaners, which were widely used by bottling works, breweries, and soft drink plants to sanitize reusable glass bottles before refilling. Built to withstand heat, moisture, and constant industrial use, surviving examples like this reflect the rugged, purpose-driven design of early American bottling operations.
Shows surface wear consistent with age and industrial use, including oxidation to the metal housing, surface grime, and light wear to the scale plate. Glass tube appears intact. Untested for accuracy.
