1900s - 1920s; Beardslee Chandelier Mfg. Co. - Chicago, IL

Commercial fire-escape ceiling fixture featuring a tapered, square milk-glass shade with rounded corners and bold green "FIRE ESCAPE" lettering on two opposing faces. The translucent glass provides an evenly illuminated directional marker while retaining a clean architectural appearance when unlit. Its brass-finished flush-mount assembly includes a stepped ceiling canopy, matching fitter with retaining screws, and a porcelain socket.

The metal base is stamped "PAT. OCT. 19. 09," corresponding with George M. Beardslee's 1909 patent for a rigid hollow chandelier stem designed to conceal electrical wiring. Beardslee Chandelier Manufacturing Company was established in Chicago in 1901 and became a prominent wholesale manufacturer of gas, electric, and combination lighting fixtures for commercial and residential buildings.

In very good condition. No cracks or chips are observed in the glass. The brass-finished base has some tarnishing and surface wear but no visible dents. Lettering remains clear, with areas of scuffing across the lettering on both sides. A dark imperfection is present along one side of the glass near the top. Electrical components should be inspected by a qualified professional before installation.
