c. 1920s; mfd. by Parnall & Sons for Gray, Dunn & Co. - Glasgow, Scotland

Antique rolling bakery display case with gilt banner sign.

This piece was used to sell baked good from Gray, Dunn & Co., a Glasgow-based baking company. Gray-Dunn originally opened their doors in 1853 until scaling up to a larger factory operation in 1862. A fire destroyed the complex in 1875 and it was rebuilt in its longtime home in the Kinning Park area of Glasgow until its demolition in 2017, almost 50 years after it closed its doors for the last time.

This cabinet features a rich, royal blue exterior (likely painted at a date long after this was utilized in a retail setting) with four uniformly-sized cabinets, each with a glass door held in place with brass brackets and latches. A long, thin sign runs across the top of the cabinet and boasts a textured reverse-gold foil backdrop with black lettering. The entire case sits on a set of four casters that allow for ease of transportation.

Exhibits minor signs of wear including some chips and scuffs, but all glass appears to be free from chips and cracks. Three of the four doors can be propped opened, but one cannot.
