c. 1890s-1910s; American Bluing Co. - Buffalo, NY

A richly graphic, large-format "Buffalo Ammonia" bottle produced by the American Bluing Co., a late-19th-century Buffalo manufacturer known for laundry agents, household cleansers, and early branded chemical products. Founded in 1872, the firm capitalized on the era's boom in packaged domestic cleaners, competing with regional bluing and ammonia producers through bold trademark imagery-most notably the charging buffalo emblem seen here.

This example retains its spectacular original front label: ornate Victorian typography in deep red, gold, and indigo, wrapped in decorative scrollwork and framing a full-bodied buffalo illustration. The bottle itself is hand-blown aqua glass with a tooled lip, consistent with premium household chemical packaging from the turn of the century. The back label is heavily worn, now a translucent parchment-like remnant pressed against the interior surface.

Wear is present throughout including scattered label losses, residue inside the vessel, scratches to the glass, and expected age toning-but the display presence remains exceptional, with the graphic panel still vivid and sharply legible.
