c. 1890s-1910s; Delaware and Atlantic Telegraph & Telephone Co. - Newark, NJ

Double-sided porcelain enamel flange sign advertising the Delaware and Atlantic Telegraph and Telephone Company, featuring deep cobalt blue lettering and border graphics over a white porcelain ground. The central graphic depicts a stylized bell-form emblem reading "Local and Long Distance Telephone," reflecting the transitional period when independent regional communication companies were consolidating telephone and telegraph services under unified branding. The projecting flange construction allowed the sign to be mounted perpendicular to a building facade for visibility along streets or rail corridors, while the compact format suggests use at a local exchange office, switching station, or affiliated commercial location.

The Delaware and Atlantic Telegraph and Telephone Company operated as a regional communications provider during the rapid expansion of independent telephone infrastructure in the early twentieth century, serving communities prior to widespread Bell System consolidation.

Shows moderate to heavy wear consistent with outdoor exposure and age including scattered porcelain loss, oxidation, scratches, staining, and edge wear throughout. Three bullet holes are present through the sign face with associated surrounding enamel loss and rusting. Additional chips and losses visible along edges and mounting flange.

PARCEL SHIPPING

We ship smaller objects with UPS and USPS. All shipments are fully insured and adhere to carrier packing guidelines. Shipping costs for smaller items being shipped within the continental United States are free up to $100. If a parcel shipment exceeds $100, the remaining costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. FREIGHT SHIPPING

Free freight shipping is available for most large items. Conditions and restrictions apply: Free delivery is only offered on orders in the continental US. Shipping for freight items is free up to $500. If freight shipping costs exceed $500, the buyer is responsible for covering any amount over $500. Free freight delivery services include: delivery to a freight terminal, curbside delivery, and door-to-door delivery with a private carrier. White glove delivery services are *not included* in our free freight shipping policy, but may be available for a fee. Buyers may be subject to fees in cases where a delivery location is remote/difficult to access, or where a shipment requires special handling. Please contact us for shipping quotes and available services prior to purchasing. 

All shipments are considered FOB (Free on Board), meaning the buyer assumes all responsibility for the shipment the moment it leaves our loading dock. Any risk of loss or damage after this point is assumed solely by the buyer. In the event of damage or loss, we are happy to assist buyers in the claims process if we helped coordinate the shipment. However, we are not responsible for any damages, loss, or deductibles. 

Delivery for freight items averages between 2-4 weeks. Longer delivery times are to be expected in cases where a delivery location is remote or when an order contains especially large or fragile items.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

All shipments going outside of the continental United States will require consultation prior to shipping. Items will be crated and shipped by boat or by air at the buyer's expense. Please contact us regarding any questions you may have.
