c. 1900s; E.P. Leischner, Chemist - Chicago

Heavy sinlge-sided porcelain (SSP) enamel trade sign in navy blue with white block lettering reading "E.P. LEISCHNER, R.Ph." This elongated, narrow format was likely mounted outside a Chicago pharmacy, advertising the licensed pharmacist and proprietor. The clean sans-serif lettering and enamel finish reflect the professional, durable signage standards of early 20th-century urban storefronts.

Research links E.P. Leischner to Chicago's chemical and pharmaceutical trade. Surviving bottles and packaging (such as "Bexol," a cough remedy containing codeine and other compounds) identify him as a chemist and manufacturer active in the early 1900s. His business reflects the era's overlap between pharmacists, chemists, and small-scale drug manufacturers, many of whom produced proprietary medicines before stricter FDA regulations reshaped the industry.

This example shows enamel surface wear, scattered edge chipping, and minor oxidation around mounting holes, but retains strong gloss and legibility across the field. A scarce surviving example of a named independent pharmacist's trade sign, tied directly to a known Chicago druggist.
