Wooden advertising thermometer featuring a lithographed image promoting "Custom Clothes" for J.L. Taylor & Co. The upper portion depicts a colonial-era gentleman wearing period dress while seated with folded fabric, thread, and tailoring materials beneath the arched "CUSTOM CLOTHES" lettering. The thermometer retains its original dual Fahrenheit/Celsius scale with decorative pierced metal indicator guard and hanging eye at the top. The reverse retains the printed Dorfmann Bros., Manufacturers of Advertising Thermometers, Corona, N.Y. manufacturer's mark along with operating instructions.

Displays heavy age-related wear throughout. Lithographed surface exhibits extensive paint and image loss, flaking, crazing, abrasions, and discoloration exposing the wood substrate in numerous areas. A repaired vertical crack extends nearly the full length of the body with visible old adhesive residue along the repair. Additional shrinkage cracks are present near the arched top. The thermometer tube appears intact and was indicating temperature at the time of cataloging, though accuracy has not been tested. Reverse shows additional staining, wear, and losses to the printed manufacturer's instructions. Overall presents as a well-worn early advertising thermometer retaining its original graphics despite significant surface deterioration.

PARCEL SHIPPING

We ship smaller objects with UPS and USPS. All shipments are fully insured and adhere to carrier packing guidelines. Shipping costs for smaller items being shipped within the continental United States are free up to $100. If a parcel shipment exceeds $100, the remaining costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. FREIGHT SHIPPING

Free freight shipping is available for most large items. Conditions and restrictions apply: Free delivery is only offered on orders in the continental US. Shipping for freight items is free up to $500. If freight shipping costs exceed $500, the buyer is responsible for covering any amount over $500. Free freight delivery services include: delivery to a freight terminal, curbside delivery, and door-to-door delivery with a private carrier. White glove delivery services are *not included* in our free freight shipping policy, but may be available for a fee. Buyers may be subject to fees in cases where a delivery location is remote/difficult to access, or where a shipment requires special handling. Please contact us for shipping quotes and available services prior to purchasing. 

All shipments are considered FOB (Free on Board), meaning the buyer assumes all responsibility for the shipment the moment it leaves our loading dock. Any risk of loss or damage after this point is assumed solely by the buyer. In the event of damage or loss, we are happy to assist buyers in the claims process if we helped coordinate the shipment. However, we are not responsible for any damages, loss, or deductibles. 

Delivery for freight items averages between 2-4 weeks. Longer delivery times are to be expected in cases where a delivery location is remote or when an order contains especially large or fragile items.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

All shipments going outside of the continental United States will require consultation prior to shipping. Items will be crated and shipped by boat or by air at the buyer's expense. Please contact us regarding any questions you may have.
