Antique oak “Misses Toilet Tree” featuring a tall, lathe-turned central column with an egg-shaped finial and repeated ringed embellishments. Multiple tiers of ornate gilt-finished cast-metal hardware provide pierced, upswept arms and smaller curved hooks for hanging hats, coats, garments, and accessories. The stand rests on three elaborate pierced-metal legs with scrolling profiles and graduated circular cutouts. An original embossed maker’s plaque identifies the piece as “Udell’s Misses Toilet Tree.”

“Toilet” originally referred to the complete process of dressing and grooming, not specifically to a bathroom fixture. A toilet tree was therefore a dressing-room or bedroom stand used to organize garments and personal accessories. This example’s hooks and perforated arms could hold coats, hats, collars, scarves, brushes, towels, or other dressing articles. “Misses Toilet Tree” indicates a smaller model intended for young women or girls.

Shows moderate wear consistent with age, including scratches, scuffs, small dents, finish rubbing, and scattered discoloration to the wood. Metal components exhibit tarnish, oxidation, abrasions, patina, and finish loss. Several pierced arms have broken or incomplete tips, and some hooks show slight bending or misalignment. The maker’s plaque remains legible.

FREIGHT SHIPPING

Free freight shipping is available for most large items. Conditions and restrictions apply: Free delivery is only offered on orders in the continental US. Shipping for freight items is free up to $500. If freight shipping costs exceed $500, the buyer is responsible for covering any amount over $500. Free freight delivery services include: delivery to a freight terminal, curbside delivery, and door-to-door delivery with a private carrier. White glove delivery services are *not included* in our free freight shipping policy, but may be available for a fee. Buyers may be subject to fees in cases where a delivery location is remote/difficult to access, or where a shipment requires special handling. Please contact us for shipping quotes and available services prior to purchasing. 

All shipments are considered FOB (Free on Board), meaning the buyer assumes all responsibility for the shipment the moment it leaves our loading dock. Any risk of loss or damage after this point is assumed solely by the buyer. In the event of damage or loss, we are happy to assist buyers in the claims process if we helped coordinate the shipment. However, we are not responsible for any damages, loss, or deductibles. 

Delivery for freight items averages between 2-4 weeks. Longer delivery times are to be expected in cases where a delivery location is remote or when an order contains especially large or fragile items.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

All shipments going outside of the continental United States will require consultation prior to shipping. Items will be crated and shipped by boat or by air at the buyer's expense. Please contact us regarding any questions you may have.
