Color lithographed advertising print promoting Capewell Horse Nails, displayed in a period wood frame with gilt liner behind glass. The illustration depicts a blacksmith shoeing a horse while a well-dressed gentleman observes, surrounded by decorative graphics incorporating horseshoe nails into the border. Promotional text emphasizes the product's reliability with claims including "They Never Crimp, Split or Break" and "They are Uniform, Strong and Perfect." The lower margin identifies The Capewell Horse Nail Company and lists its Hartford, Connecticut headquarters along with domestic branch offices and a London factory, underscoring the firm's broad international distribution. A blank retailer panel at the bottom was intended for imprinting the name of a local hardware dealer or blacksmith supply merchant.

Founded in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1881, The Capewell Horse Nail Company became one of the world's leading manufacturers of horseshoe nails and farrier supplies. Its products were exported internationally and heavily promoted through illustrated trade advertising distributed to blacksmiths, hardware dealers, and agricultural suppliers during the height of the horse-powered era.

Print behind glass. Displays moderate age-related wear consistent with age and display. The wood frame exhibits scattered scratches, finish wear, and losses to the gilt liner. Two mitered corner joints are loose, and one side of the frame has a noticeable chip, as photographed. The print shows typical age-related toning with light surface wear visible under the glass. The reverse retains its original wood backing and hanging wire with expected age-related wear. Please review photographs for a complete assessment of condition.

PARCEL SHIPPING

We ship smaller objects with UPS and USPS. All shipments are fully insured and adhere to carrier packing guidelines. Shipping costs for smaller items being shipped within the continental United States are free up to $100. If a parcel shipment exceeds $100, the remaining costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. FREIGHT SHIPPING

Free freight shipping is available for most large items. Conditions and restrictions apply: Free delivery is only offered on orders in the continental US. Shipping for freight items is free up to $500. If freight shipping costs exceed $500, the buyer is responsible for covering any amount over $500. Free freight delivery services include: delivery to a freight terminal, curbside delivery, and door-to-door delivery with a private carrier. White glove delivery services are *not included* in our free freight shipping policy, but may be available for a fee. Buyers may be subject to fees in cases where a delivery location is remote/difficult to access, or where a shipment requires special handling. Please contact us for shipping quotes and available services prior to purchasing. 

All shipments are considered FOB (Free on Board), meaning the buyer assumes all responsibility for the shipment the moment it leaves our loading dock. Any risk of loss or damage after this point is assumed solely by the buyer. In the event of damage or loss, we are happy to assist buyers in the claims process if we helped coordinate the shipment. However, we are not responsible for any damages, loss, or deductibles. 

Delivery for freight items averages between 2-4 weeks. Longer delivery times are to be expected in cases where a delivery location is remote or when an order contains especially large or fragile items.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

All shipments going outside of the continental United States will require consultation prior to shipping. Items will be crated and shipped by boat or by air at the buyer's expense. Please contact us regarding any questions you may have.
