c. 1887-1895; Wrenn, Whitehurst & Co. - Richmond, VA

Patented revolving dry goods display rack constructed of oak with a cast iron and steel rotating base. The display features twin upright standards surmounted by turned Gothic-style finials and fitted with rows of removable bent-wire display hooks secured by cast iron mounting blocks. A central iron spindle allows the stand to rotate for convenient customer access, while the cruciform base provides stability on the sales floor. The lower crossmember retains its original stenciled patent dates, "PAT'D MCH 30-86" and "FEB'Y 22-87," corresponding to U.S. Patent Nos. 339,081 and 358,418 issued to R. W. Whitehurst for his dry goods display system.

Founded in Richmond, Virginia, Wrenn, Whitehurst & Co. was primarily known as a manufacturer of agricultural implements, plows, and plow castings. Under partner R. W. Whitehurst, the firm's foundry and woodworking capabilities also extended into patented commercial store fixtures during the mid-1880s, including innovative revolving display systems for dry goods merchants.

Exhibits moderate age-related wear consistent with decades of commercial use. The oak frame displays scattered scratches, scuffs, finish wear, abrasions, and areas of discoloration throughout. Iron hook supports and rotating hardware exhibit oxidation and age-related patina. Surface dust accumulation is present within recessed areas, and the stenciled patent markings remain partially legible with expected wear. Overall, the display retains an attractive untouched surface and presents well with a desirable antique mercantile character.
