Original United States Patent Office model for A. C. Brownell's patented improvement in copper boilers, covered under U.S. Patent No. 39,881, issued September 15, 1863. Constructed as a hand-fabricated copper vessel with four projecting brass pipe fittings, the model demonstrates Brownell's improved water heater design, which emphasized brazed construction in place of soft solder to produce stronger, more durable, and watertight copper boilers. The model retains its original copper body and brass fittings, accompanied by period patent documentation mounted within a protective plastic sleeve, including a handwritten green cardstock identification tag, a printed provenance tag from the O. Rundle Gilbert Collection of Original United States Patent Models (1790-1890), and original linen patent documents. The documents appear to comprise multiple pages, though they are now adhered together. The original fabric cord used to secure the documentation to the model also remains present.

Copper exhibits light oxidation concentrated along the brazed seam lines at the top and bottom, with four projecting brass pipe fittings displaying an even darkened patina consistent with age. The first fitting (top) and third fitting (one of the lower fittings) can be easily removed, with their retaining nuts turning freely by hand. The second fitting rotates while its retaining nut remains tight, and the fourth fitting remains fixed with neither the pipe nor nut moving. The copper body is structurally intact, displaying one prominent dent along with numerous smaller dents and minor handling marks throughout. The accompanying documents remain housed in a protective plastic sleeve. The green cardstock identification tag is creased but retains legible handwritten cursive information, while the yellow provenance card is creased but otherwise blank aside from its printed text. The linen patent documents remain adhered together and should be handled with care. The original fabric attachment cord is present but exhibits damage consistent with age.

FREIGHT SHIPPING

Free freight shipping is available for most large items. Conditions and restrictions apply: Free delivery is only offered on orders in the continental US. Shipping for freight items is free up to $500. If freight shipping costs exceed $500, the buyer is responsible for covering any amount over $500. Free freight delivery services include: delivery to a freight terminal, curbside delivery, and door-to-door delivery with a private carrier. White glove delivery services are *not included* in our free freight shipping policy, but may be available for a fee. Buyers may be subject to fees in cases where a delivery location is remote/difficult to access, or where a shipment requires special handling. Please contact us for shipping quotes and available services prior to purchasing. 

All shipments are considered FOB (Free on Board), meaning the buyer assumes all responsibility for the shipment the moment it leaves our loading dock. Any risk of loss or damage after this point is assumed solely by the buyer. In the event of damage or loss, we are happy to assist buyers in the claims process if we helped coordinate the shipment. However, we are not responsible for any damages, loss, or deductibles. 

Delivery for freight items averages between 2-4 weeks. Longer delivery times are to be expected in cases where a delivery location is remote or when an order contains especially large or fragile items.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

All shipments going outside of the continental United States will require consultation prior to shipping. Items will be crated and shipped by boat or by air at the buyer's expense. Please contact us regarding any questions you may have.
