Vintage Eddie Feigner “The King and His Court” Softball World Tour Broadside
Promotional broadside advertising Eddie Feigner - "The King" - and His Court, the famed four-person professional softball team, billed here as "The Original 4-Man Softball Team" on their 56th World Tour in 1970. The layout combines bold red and blue typography with action photography and graphic cutout imagery of Feigner mid-pitch, emphasizing speed, control, and showmanship. A large open field at the lower half was intended for local overprinting, allowing promoters to add venue, date, and ticket details as the team barnstormed across towns, fairs, and stadiums.
Eddie Feigner (1926-2007), known universally as "The King," was one of the most influential figures in the history of softball. Beginning in the 1940s, Feigner and his team revolutionized the sport through theatrical, high-skill exhibition play, often competing against full nine-man teams with only four players. Over a career spanning more than six decades, Feigner reportedly pitched in excess of 15,000 games worldwide, striking out major-league hitters, college all-stars, and local challengers alike. His team-commonly composed of Feigner, Anne Marie Feigner, Jack Knight, and Rich Hoppe-became synonymous with precision pitching, behind-the-back throws, blindfolded strikes, and crowd-pleasing bravado. Posters like this were central to their touring model, serving as both advertisement and spectacle in communities across the United States and abroad.
Shows light handling wear consistent with age, including minor edge wear and faint surface marks. Printed imagery remains crisp, with strong color saturation and clear photographic detail.
