c. 1940s; American Shuffleboard Co. - Union City, NJ

Painted wooden salesman sample advertising model of the American Shuffleboard Co. "Grand Champion" table, mounted on a streamlined Art Deco style display plinth. The miniature table features red and cream painted rails with turquoise striping, finely turned legs with contrasting pinstriped decoration, and a scored faux wood playing surface replicating the layout of a regulation shuffleboard table. The central side rail retains the "American" marking, while the overall design mirrors the company's commercial shuffleboard equipment produced for taverns, recreation halls, and social clubs during the mid-20th century.

Salesman samples of this type were used by traveling representatives and dealers to demonstrate construction, styling, and finish options to prospective buyers without transporting a full-size game table. The exaggerated streamlined geometry, colorful enamel-style paintwork, and elongated proportions strongly reflect late Depression and wartime-era recreational design aesthetics. American Shuffleboard Co. became one of the best-known U.S. shuffleboard manufacturers during the early and mid-20th century, producing both commercial and home recreation equipment.

Shows moderate wear consistent with age and handling including scattered scratches, edge wear, finish loss, and small paint chips throughout. Base shows surface abrasions and light discoloration. Sample remains structurally sound and presents well overall with strong surviving graphics and color.
